The installation of this proven equipment will reduce the quantity of the produced H2S in the CAL biogas before it is extracted from the lagoon. Dependant on CAL retention time, a reduction of over 90% of generated H2S can be achieved, making this a cost-effective solution to improve the quality and usability of biogas.
AWITE equipment
- AwiDESULPH 1000 – a 1,000m3/h desulphurisation equipment package
- AwiFLEX Cool + gas analyser system with the capability to reliably measure the biogas system outputs for H2S, O2, and CO2
- Sampling points at outlet of existing CAL and combined biogas outlet
- Hydrogen sulphide concentration
- Oxygen concentration
Other gas analysis:
- CH4 concentration
- CO2 concentration
The AwiDESULF delivers an automatically controlled quantity of air and maintains the O2 level in the range of 0-1% O2 on the basis of measured O2 levels at the installed sensor points. By maintaining the O2 concentration the H2S is broken down into elemental sulphur.
By installing a sampling point at the outlets of each CAL, the Awite system will maintain precise control of the O2 concentration in each CAL, with a 3rd sampling point providing a precise measurement of the combined flow. The H2S levels will continue to drop as the biogas travels through the lagoon, providing the O2 levels in the combined gas stream and the retention time is sufficient.
Key advantages of the AwiDESULF:
- Process stability
- Minimal operating cost
- Constant measuring and O2 monitoring
- Exact control even at times of fluctuations of produce biogas
- Remote maintenance capability

COST BENEFITS OF A BIOENERGY SYSTEM
- Produce your own power – renewable electricity or gas
- Food and agricultural waste a part of the circular economy
- Organic (non-synthetic) fertiliser will enhance soil carbon capture
- No phosphate run off from fertiliser which reduces blue-green algae
- Naturally derived carbon dioxide for industry use
- Prevents carbon dioxide emissions
